Georgia used-car dealer pre-license seminar requirements
A new Georgia used motor vehicle dealer applicant must complete a Board-approved pre-license seminar before obtaining a license. Georgia's rules require an approved seminar to provide at least four and no more than six hours of instruction. What the seminar covers
The required outline includes licensing rules, titles, tags, taxes, sales-tax reporting, paperwork and recordkeeping, advertising, unfair or deceptive practices, odometer law, and other laws affecting used-vehicle dealers.
Use only a currently approved provider
Schedules, delivery formats, locations, and prices are controlled by providers and can change. Use the Georgia Secretary of State's current dealer resources to identify approved providers, then confirm approval and the next available class directly before paying.
Austell applicants follow the same statewide rule
There is no separate Austell seminar requirement. An applicant in Austell completes a Georgia Board-approved seminar and separately handles the dealership's local zoning and business-location requirements.
Seminar completion is only one application item
The current licensing checklist also calls for zoning certification, a $35,000 surety bond with power of attorney, insurance, business photographs, a background check, preliminary inspection, identity and citizenship documents, and the completed application and fee. The Board instructs applicants to have an application on file before fingerprinting.
